The famous Oxford city centre is of course dominated by the University colleges; the most well-known being Trinity, Christ Church and Balliol. There is also a large number of world famous sites and attractions.
A real focal point in Oxford city centre is Carfax, which is a crossroads forming the junction of Cornmarket Street, St Aldates, Queen Street and the High. You will find Carfax Tower (St Martin’s Tower) in this area, which is a great place to pose for a photograph.

The High, a well-known street, stretches from Carfax and is home to some independent and high-end stores as well as university and college buildings. You can also stroll down St Aldates to see more shops and Oxford Town Hall or wander down to the river. Oxford’s two main shopping streets, Cornmarket and Queen Street, are also worth a visit.
Another street you may like to visit is St Giles, which is well-known as the home of The Playhouse Theatre, the Randolph Hotel and the world famous museum the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology.
If you are a shopper Oxford city centre offers you so much choice, as well as lots of restaurants to take a rest from shopping. Some of the shopping the city offers is The Westgate, a contemporary shopping centre. You can also find shopping centres at the Clarendon Centre and the Golden Cross arcade which is next to the famous Covered Market. Then there’s the more recent addition Gloucester Green where a fresh produce market is held weekly.
